POCOMOKE MIDDLE IN THE NEWS

Fourth
graders at Pocomoke Middle School have been studying Maryland. As part of
our study, Ms. Parvis from the Delmarva Poultry Industry visited our school
and brought chicks. She talked about the Poultry Industry and we got to pet
and hold the chicks. We also watched a Poultry video. The Poultry video was
about chickens. Chickens are very interesting and this movie had amazing facts.
There are many ways to eat chicken. I didn't even know that chickens have
been sent to space. I didn't know that until I watched this movie. Today,
technology is important to farmers. There are two types of chickens, a layer
and a broiler.

Did
you know Geometry could be a ton of fun? Mrs. Stephen's fourth grade class
at Pocomoke Middle School completed a fun math activity using tasty manipulates
to create line segments, lines, and angles. We used candy corn, marshmallows,
and pretzel sticks. Before we used our manipulates, we learned that a
line segment is part of a line that has two endpoints. The pretzels represented
the line and the marshmallows represented the endpoints. Then, Mrs. Stephen's
class made lines and used candy corn because a line has no endpoints.
Finally, we made acute angles, obtuse angles, and right angles. Acute
angles are angles less than 90 degrees, obtuse angles are greater than
90 degrees but less than 180 degrees, and right angles are exactly 90
degrees. This was a fun math activity and tasty too!

7th
graders from Pocomoke Middle School have been supporting the Kenya Connect
program as their service learning project. Kenya Connect puts kids in
the United States in touch with students in Kenya through a pen pal program.
As part of their service project, these students raised $270 through coin
drives, bake sales and a faculty casual day to benefit Kenyan schools.
