MISSION STATEMENT

The Pocomoke City Public Schools, an enthusiastic rural learning partnership of parents, educators, and community agencies, empowers all students to meet rigorous academic standards and to develop into responsible, involved lifelong learners who can excel in their endeavors, contribute positively to their society, and fulfill their personal dreams.

OBJECTIVES

(E-Pocomoke Elementary; M-Pocomoke Middle; H-Pocomoke High)

By 2008, all Pocomoke City Public Schools students will demonstrate improved academic performance with no difference attributable to race, gender, or special education, LEP, or FARM status as measured by the following indicators:

One hundred percent of students will be at least at the proficient level of the Maryland State Assessment, demonstrating adequate yearly Progress as determined by the Maryland State Department of Education. (E, M, H)

One hundred percent of students will attain the sixth stanine or above in reading as demonstrated in the spring administration of the Gates-MacGinitie test. (E, M)

One hundred percent of students tested with the CTBS/5 at PES will be at least at the fiftieth percentile in reading. (E)

One hundred percent of students tested with the CTBS/5 at PES will be at least at the fiftieth percentile in math. (E)

One hundred percent of students will be on grade level on the CCC Math Skills and Concepts Software program. (E,M)

One hundred percent of students will pass the Maryland Functional Reading Test, a graduation requirement, by grade 8. (M,H)

One hundred percent of students will pass the Maryland Functional Math Test, a graduation requirement, by grade 8. (M, H)

One hundred percent of students will pass the Maryland Writing Test, a graduation requirement by grade 8. (M, H)

Increase by fifteen percentage points the number of students who pass the Integrated Language Arts and Mathematics End of Course Assessments in grades 6, 7, and 8. (M)

Increase by fifteen percentage points the passing rate on the county final exams. (H)

Increase by ten percentage points the percentage of students achieving the median score or better on the PSAT and SAT exams. (H)

The percentage of local curricular framework in state assessed content areas (grades 3, 5, 8, and 12) matching MSDE Skills for Success as well as technology skills in content standards identified by MSDE will be 100%. (E, M, H)

By 2008, Pocomoke City Public Schools students will demonstrate greater respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, fairness, citizenship, peacefulness, positive attitudes, and tolerance in their school and community as measured by the following indicators:

The percentage of students who feel that children at PES demonstrate each of the objective characteristics in a satisfactory manner will by one hundred percent as measured in a survey of student sin grades Kindergarten through 3. Due to their developmental level, the kindergartners will be surveyed only in the spring. (E)

Decrease by fifteen percentage points the percentage of students receiving office referrals requiring administrative disciplinary action during a school year. Children in the Early Interventions classes will not be included in this measure. (E, M, H)

Achieve and maintain the 96% monthly student body attendance rate. (E, M, H)

Increase by fifteen percentage points the percentage of students participating extended school activities. (E, M, H)

Increase by fifteen percentage points the number of peer mediations sought t by students to resolve their conflicts. (E, M, H)

Achieve and maintain the excellent SET (System Evaluation Tool) PBIS rating. (E, M)

Achieve and maintain one hundred percent adherence to the Worcester County Technology Agreement. (E, M, H)

By the year 2008, all students and staff will demonstrate frequent use and integration of technology for teaching and learning throughout the curriculum as measured by:

The percentage of students, who use technology regularly for learning activities, as reported by their teachers, will be 100%, as measured by teachers marking “every day or almost every day” for at least 10 of the 19 questions of Section 7.1 on the annual Maryland Technology Inventory. (E, M, H)

The percentage of students completing grades 3, 5, 8, 12 who meet the proficiency level as indicated by the Worcester County Public School Technology Specific Curriculum will be 100%. (E, M, H)

The percentage of Worcester County teachers at “intermediate” integration of technology will be 100% as reported on the annual Maryland Technology Inventory. (E, M, H)

The percentage of teachers who have earned the Worcester County Public Schools Technology Proficiency Certificate will be 100%. (E, M, H)
