All students in grades 6, 7 and 8 take four specials during a term. Two specials are taken each day on an A day/B day schedule.
Here are some user-friendly, fun and easy websites to learn about art and play around with Elements of art, which we teach to students at Pocomoke Middle School.

Sixth Grade: We are currently reading from the Essential Elements Book 1 and working on Winter Concert repertoire. Recently, we began the "Mad Dash" which is a race for the students to complete our first method book by the end of the year. Students who finish the assigned exercises in "The Dash" at the end of the year will be entered in a drawing for a grand prize which will be announced this month.
Seventh and Eighth Grades: The band is reading from Essential Elements Book 1 and we are currently working on Winter concert repertoire.
GENERAL MUSIC
Sixth Grade: Students are working on guitar lessons for beginners.
Seventh Grade: Students are learning the five elements of music as well as learning to write note combinations to produce a melody.
Sixth Grade: Reading to perform a task is made simple and delicious with the canned cinnamon roll lab. Our next lab, chocolate chip muffins, will prove to be a little bit more of a challenge. Along with recipe knowledge, Mrs. Wright also looks for collaborative teamwork with food production and cleanliness. We will close out the foods and nutrition unit with a family style breakfast.
Seventh Grade: Our sewing project will soon become our foods lab attire. We will experience four foods labs, muffins, cookies, biscuits and coffee cakes. Clothing and Textiles, the curriculum name for this class, gives us the opportunity to discuss the elements of design as well as principles of design.
Eighth Grade: We
are using recipes that involve more mixing terms and techniques. We are encouraged
to use our equipment properly to get the best results. They are preparing
to work with yeast breads. Our next experiences in the foods lab will be the
famous Pizza.
Sixth Grade: We have just recently began our study of Spanish with an overview of Spanish culture and language. We are currently studying the Spanish alphabet and pronunciation. We are also beginning some conversational Spanish such as salutations, greetings and courtesies.
Seventh and Eighth Grades:
Students
are currently studying French vocabulary used to describe other people's nationalities,
names and the nature of the relationship you have with them. For example he's
a friend, she's a friend, he's a teacher, and she's a teacher.
Sixth and Seventh Grade: Students are having fun as they learn the keyboard. We are practicing the home row keys and preparation for a technique evaluation. We have also used some fun website programs to improve our skills and these sites can be easily accessed from home. Soon, we will be using the Type to Learn 3 program as well.

Seventh Grade:We have just concluded learning how to find information and implement it into PowerPoint. We will concentrate on the program MS Excel and its many uses in school and business. We will have a visitor later in the month demonstrate how Excel can be used to design programs for businesses to keep track of payroll, inventory, and staff. The possibilities for using Excel are limited only by our imaginations.
Eighth Grade: Students have been learning how to us word processing skills to create attractive documents. Currently, they are working on creating travel brochures.
Students have been giving an outstanding effort in their physical education classes. This effort will improve their cardio respiratory endurance as well as their strength and coordination. They have just completed their fall fitness testing and are now involved in Pilo Shoot and Pilo Hockey activities. Next on the agenda is the Elks Hoop Shoot followed by Scooter Ball.
Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Grade: Students have been given their first IRI for the year. This means that they received a one-on-one evaluation of their reading level using the program's Individualized Reading Inventories. IRI's are administered three times a year, September, January and May. Students have completed several SOAR texts with Mrs. Snyder modeling the four strategies.
