PMS IS FULLY ACCREDITED BY THE
MIDDLE STATES ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES
ACADEMICS
PMS has met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) as measured by the Maryland School
Assessments (MSA) every year.
MSDE recognized PMS for making significant improvement in subgroups on the 2005 & 2006 MSA.
PMS was selected as one of nine high achieving/high poverty middle schools to participate in a national study in March 2002, which was sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and conducted by the University of Texas.
MSDE recognized PMS as a 2002 Honorable
Mention Blue Ribbon School.
CHARACTER
EDUCATION
MSDE recognized PMS as a 2003, 2004, 2005, & 2006 PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support) Exemplary School.
The Maryland Center for Character Education recognized PMS as a 2001 Maryland Character Education School of the Year.
The National Character Education Partnership (CEP) recognized PMS with a 2002 & 2005 Promising Practices Citation.
CEP recognized PMS as one of nineteen 2003 & 2006 Semi-Finalist National Schools of Character.
Southern University of Georgia recognized PMS as a 2004 and 2005 National High Flying School.
The Maryland Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (MASCD) selected PMS's Character Education Program as a 2006 Program of Excellence.
STUDENT
ACTIVITIES
The Maryland Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (MASCD)
selected PMS's Pocomoke Pride Academies as a 2003 and 2005 Program of Excellence.
MSDE recognized PMS and the YMCA in 2005 for their after-school partnership.
In spring 2002 and spring 2003, PMS Destination Imagination teams won at the regional level and advanced to the state level competitions.
In fall 2001, the PMS MathCounts Team earned 2nd place in the regional MathCounts competition.
In fall 2001, fall 2002, spring 2003, & fall 2006, PMS students placed 1st in the Eastern Region of Maryland in the Stock Market Game.
The PMS middle level MESA team was awarded best overall team in the state of Maryland in 2001 and in the region in 2005.
The PMS elementary and middle level MESA teams were awarded the best overall teams in the region in 2005.
PMS received the Governor's School and Family Fitness Awards Gold Certificate of Achievement for the 2001-02 school year.
Individual students have received numerous
awards at the county, state, and national level.
ENVIRONMENT
PMS was recognized as a 2003 Governor's Green School.
PMS received a 2003, 2004, 2005, &
2006 Silver Award from the Maryland Community Forest Council and the Maryland
Forest Service.
COMMUNITY & FACULTY
The Pocomoke Police Department presented PMS with a 2003 Pacesetter Award,
which acknowledges those institutions.
Edna Wright received the 2005 State Excellence Chair Award for outstanding
support and assistance to minority students.
Tamara Krauch is the 2007 Worcester County
Teacher of the Year.
