PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
A host of activities have already occurred this school year: open houses; PTA fall fundraiser; school pictures; parent-teacher conferences; band orientation; SFAB elections; Grandparents and Moms and Dads to Lunch & Learning; field trips; Dads and Sons Dinner & A Movie; and Mothers and Daughters Jewelry Jamboree to name a few.
As committed as the staff at Pocomoke Middle School is, we still need the support of parents. It's never too late for you to become more involved with your child's education. When schools work together with families to support learning, children tend to succeed not just in school, but throughout life. The middle school years are an important time to become involved because parental guidance is key to developing a successful student.
Ways to Encourage Academic Effort - 1. Help your child set achievable goals. Then, don't wait to offer encouragement. Point out the small successes along the way: "You did better on this week's quiz. Keep it up and you'll raise your grades before you know it." 2. Nurture your child's natural curiosity. Welcome his questions. Show your own curiosity about things, too. 3. Be a model lifelong learner. Let your child know that learning never ends. Talk with him or her about new things you learn.
VICE PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Pocomoke Middle School Students busily earned Brave Bucks so they could participate in the second Brave Buck activity of the year! The fall hayride was one of the most popular Brave bucks activities last year. "Farmer Perry" will once again drive the tractor and pull a trailer full of hay and children around the school grounds - he may even be joined this year by "Farmer Chisholm". The students will enjoy treats and perhaps experience some tricks during the ride. Face painting and story telling will also be a part of the activity.
**Don't know what Brave Bucks are? Ask your child how they can earn Brave Bucks and Pocomoke Pride Slips.

POCOMOKE PRIDE ACADEMIES
The 2007 - 2008 school year marks the seventh year of the Pocomoke PRIDE Academies After-school Program. Each year the program has grown through the support of students, parents, staff, and community members. Many Pocomoke Middle School staff members, along with members of our local community, offer students in grades 4 through 8 the opportunity to involve themselves in academic enrichment, intervention, tutoring, homework assistance, recreation, technology, clubs and much more. Last year over 65% of our students took part in the program. A new session is about to begin - follow the link and you can download and print an application for the session that starts on February 11 and ends on March 27.
Just click on the grade level for your child and the newsletter/application will be shown.
